How to get a refund from StubHub
StubHub's FanProtect Guarantee entitles buyers to a refund in specific situations: tickets not delivered in time, tickets invalid at the gate, or an event that was officially cancelled. Getting that refund in practice requires knowing the right steps and what FanProtect actually covers. This guide walks through the process. TickHelp is an independent service and is not affiliated with StubHub.
When FanProtect entitles you to a refund
StubHub's refund policy operates through the FanProtect Guarantee, which covers three core situations that entitle buyers to a refund or comparable replacement tickets:
- Non-delivery. Your tickets did not arrive before the event and StubHub could not provide comparable replacements in time.
- Invalid tickets. Your tickets were rejected at the venue gate — because they were counterfeit, already used, or otherwise invalid — and StubHub could not provide comparable replacements.
- Cancelled event. The event was officially cancelled with no rescheduled date. StubHub typically offers a full refund or a credit worth 120% of the purchase price for cancelled events.
FanProtect does not cover buyer's remorse, postponed events (tickets remain valid), or issues that fall outside its specific coverage terms. A listing misrepresentation claim may also be covered depending on the nature and materiality of the discrepancy.
How to request a refund from StubHub
- Log in to StubHub and navigate to 'My Tickets' or your order history. Find the affected order.
- Select the option to report a problem with the order. Describe the issue clearly — use the words 'FanProtect' and 'refund' explicitly in your communication.
- Provide all supporting evidence: screenshots showing the problem, email communications, venue rejection notes (for invalid tickets), or official event cancellation announcements.
- Ask for a written confirmation of the refund timeline. StubHub should process a refund within a stated number of business days.
- If you do not receive a response or the response is unsatisfactory, follow up in writing and record all communications.
If StubHub denies your refund request
A refund denial from StubHub's front-line support is not necessarily final. Common reasons for denial include: the claim was filed too late (after the 5–10 day window), the delivery records show a seller transfer, or StubHub classifies the issue as outside FanProtect's scope.
If you believe the denial is incorrect, you can request a supervisor review and provide additional documentation that addresses the stated reason for denial.
Escalation options if StubHub refuses
- Internal appeal with a supervisor and additional evidence documenting why your claim falls within FanProtect's coverage.
- Credit card chargeback under the Fair Credit Billing Act. For non-delivery, use 'services not received.' For invalid tickets, use 'not as described.' The dispute window runs 60 days from the statement date.
- BBB complaint. StubHub responds to BBB complaints and has resolved documented FanProtect denials through this channel.
- State attorney general complaint. Creates a formal consumer protection record.
- TickHelp. TickHelp pursues StubHub refund claims on a contingency basis — you only pay when you get paid.

Frequently asked questions
- Does StubHub give refunds?
- StubHub gives refunds in specific situations covered by the FanProtect Guarantee: tickets that were not delivered in time for the event, tickets that were invalid at the venue gate, and events that are officially cancelled without rescheduling. Outside these situations, StubHub's general policy does not provide refunds for buyer's remorse or change-of-plan situations.
- How long does a StubHub refund take?
- Once StubHub approves a FanProtect refund, it typically takes 5 to 10 business days to appear on your original payment method. If you were paid by credit card, the timing also depends on your card issuer's processing time. If a refund is overdue, contact StubHub with your order number and any confirmation of the refund.
- Can StubHub offer a credit instead of a refund?
- For cancelled events, StubHub sometimes offers a credit worth 120% of the purchase price as an alternative to a cash refund. This credit offer may seem attractive, but you are not required to accept it if you prefer cash. For non-delivery and invalid-ticket situations, a cash refund is the primary remedy. Request it explicitly if StubHub leads with a credit offer.
- What if FanProtect doesn't cover my situation?
- If your situation falls outside FanProtect's coverage — for example, a postponed event or a listing dispute StubHub classifies as subjective — your options include a credit card chargeback (if the charge was not for what you received), a state consumer protection complaint, and potentially TickHelp's review of the broader claim picture.
- Can TickHelp help me get a StubHub refund?
- Yes. TickHelp helps buyers pursue StubHub refunds where FanProtect applies but was denied or not applied correctly. We also assess situations where the guarantee may not formally apply but other legal or escalation grounds exist. The eligibility check is free, and our 30% success fee applies only when money is recovered.
