StubHub wrong seats delivered: your rights
Receiving tickets for the wrong section, row, or event is a covered situation under StubHub's FanProtect Guarantee — but only if the delivered tickets are materially different from what the listing described. StubHub's response to wrong-seats complaints often involves offering comparable replacements rather than a refund, which buyers are not always required to accept. This guide explains your rights and the steps to take. TickHelp is an independent service and is not affiliated with StubHub.
When wrong seats are covered under FanProtect
StubHub's FanProtect Guarantee includes an order-accuracy prong: the tickets you receive must match what was listed. A wrong-seats claim is strongest when:
- The listing specified a particular section or row and you received tickets in a different section or a materially different location.
- You received tickets to a completely different event than what you ordered.
- The quantity of tickets received did not match the order.
- The listing described specific seating attributes that the delivered tickets do not match.
The critical factor is what the listing actually said. Take a screenshot of your order confirmation and any listing details — this is your primary evidence. If the listing described a zone rather than a specific section, seats anywhere in that zone may be considered a fulfilled order.
Steps to take when you received the wrong seats
- Compare the tickets you received against your order confirmation. Note every discrepancy: section, row, quantity, event name, date. Capture screenshots of both.
- Find the original listing if possible. Your order confirmation email may include a link to the listing. The listing description controls what FanProtect covers.
- Contact StubHub's customer support as soon as you discover the discrepancy — ideally before the event. Select the option to report a problem with your order and state the specific discrepancy clearly.
- If the discrepancy was discovered at the venue, contact StubHub from the venue before using the tickets. Using tickets in the wrong seats may be treated as acceptance of those seats.
- If StubHub offers replacement tickets, evaluate whether they are genuinely comparable to what you ordered. You are not required to accept seats StubHub unilaterally designates as comparable.
- If StubHub denies the claim or offers an unsatisfactory resolution, document the denial in writing and proceed to escalation.
If StubHub says the seats are 'comparable'
FanProtect allows StubHub to offer comparable replacement tickets as its first remedy for wrong-seats situations. 'Comparable' in StubHub's usage means tickets of similar or better value — not necessarily the same section or row you originally ordered.
If StubHub offers replacements you believe are not comparable — for example, tickets in a significantly different part of the venue, with a worse view, or in a less desirable section — you can reject the offer and request a refund. Do this in writing. Explain specifically why the offered seats are not equivalent to what you ordered.
If StubHub denies your wrong-seats claim
- Appeal within StubHub with a side-by-side listing vs. delivered ticket comparison. The order-accuracy prong of FanProtect is explicit — a material downgrade is a covered claim.
- Credit card chargeback under the 'not as described' reason code. Visa's 13.3 reason code directly applies when what was delivered does not match what was listed. The dispute window is 120 days from the event date under some networks.
- State consumer protection or BBB complaint. StubHub's BBB escalation team can override front-line denials and is particularly responsive to order-accuracy complaints supported by documentation.
- TickHelp. TickHelp pursues wrong-seats claims against StubHub on a contingency basis — you only pay when you get paid.

Frequently asked questions
- Does StubHub's FanProtect cover wrong seats?
- Yes. Wrong seats are covered under FanProtect if the tickets you received are materially different from what was listed — for example, a different section, a different event, or a significantly different row or quantity. However, FanProtect considers the listing description, not your expectations. If the listing was for a zone or general area rather than a specific row, receiving seats anywhere in that zone may not be a covered discrepancy.
- What if StubHub says the seats are 'comparable'?
- StubHub's FanProtect Guarantee allows StubHub to offer comparable replacement tickets as a remedy rather than a refund. If StubHub offers you different seats it considers comparable, you are not required to accept them as a substitute for a refund if you believe the original error entitles you to one. Push back in writing, document why the offered seats are not comparable to what was ordered, and escalate if necessary.
- Does the section matter, or just the general area?
- The listing description controls. If you purchased tickets for a specific section and received tickets for a different section, that is a material discrepancy. If the listing described a 'zone' or general area and you received seats within that zone, StubHub will typically consider the order fulfilled. Always take a screenshot of the listing at time of purchase to document exactly what was promised.
- How quickly do I need to report wrong seats to StubHub?
- Report the discrepancy as soon as you discover it — ideally before the event if the tickets are already in your account and clearly do not match. StubHub requires timely reporting; waiting until after the event significantly weakens a wrong-seats claim. If you discover the wrong seats at the venue, contact StubHub support from the venue before using the tickets.
- Can TickHelp help if StubHub delivered the wrong seats?
- Yes. TickHelp can pursue wrong-seats claims against StubHub where the delivered tickets were materially different from the listing and FanProtect was not applied correctly. The eligibility check is free, and our 30% success fee applies only when money is recovered.
